Significant advances in electric components, sensor technologies, simulation capabilities and data analytics are offering completely new opportunities for the development and operation of rotorcraft. Our Airbus flagship demonstrators such as the Racer, FlightLab and DisruptiveLab, but also the CityAirbus NextGen, are integrating key innovations in aeromechanics, hybrid-electric propulsion and new ways of piloting that substantiate our ambition to lead the helicopter industry and pioneer new VTOL for a sustainable aerospace.

To validate a previously developed motion sickness model geared towards vertical flight applications, flight tests with a MBB Bo-105 were conducted. The test design and implementation included the development of a smartphone-based measurement flight instrumentation, auditive cueing systems and questionnaires. The results of the flight tests are compared to those of the motion sickness model, in order to show good congruency for medium motion sickness.
The presentation will provide a status of eVTOL certification activities and will provide an insight on main challenges and how they are being overcomed to enable eVTOL aircraft to enter into service. It will address certification aspects and touch upon some other consideration such as Operations and Flight Crew Licensing aspects.
